Our Story
About the Boonton Fire Department
An all-volunteer department founded in 1891 and continuously protecting Boonton, NJ ever since. Five companies. 400+ calls per year. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Our Mission
To protect the lives and property of Boonton residents through professional, compassionate volunteer service โ including structure fires, motor vehicle accidents, brush fires, carbon monoxide alarms, and more.
Department History
The Mill Bell
A bell at the Iron Works served as the fire and accident alarm for the community. It last rang on October 16, 1906, during an iron works fire โ and fell when its supports burned away.
Original Structure
The department was originally divided into a Hook and Ladder Section and a Bucket Section. The Fire Wardens, established in April 1892, evolved into today's Salvage & Rescue Company.
Today the department is composed of five companies (301โ305), a Board of Chiefs, the Ladies Auxiliary (est. 1935), and the Junior Firefighters program โ all united in service to Boonton.
